If you are following our GERD menus, you don’t have to worry about the ingredients in the meals. In fact, we avoid any food that irritates the oesophagus such as tomatoes, citrus fruits, mint and chocolate, and we limit the use of fats, fermentable foods and spices.
Having said this, you should pay special attention to what you drink, because tea, coffee, soft drinks and of course, alcohol can also have an irritating effect on the inner lining of the oesophagus and they must therefore be avoided or at least limited to a strict minimum.
Here are some alternatives:
Coffee (regular or decaf) | → | Cereal coffee or chicory |
Tea | → | Herbal teas (except mint-flavoured) |
Cola type soft drinks | → | Fruit juices (except citrus-fruits) |
Alcohol | → | Beer (in limited quantity) |
