Parents can support their young athlete by selecting a restaurant that offers the best pre- or post-game food choices, not necessarily the one that is a “parent-favorite”. It also helps if parents choose the healthy meals from the menu as well so that their athletes aren’t looking over at their plates longingly, wishing they could have had the fried cheese sticks, burger, fries and chocolate brownie for dessert. There is a time and place for that type of food selection and playoffs is not the time nor the place! Parents contribute enormously to playoff success – by making sure that their athletes sleep, eat and rest well and by helping them to manage their emotions during the stressful playoffs. Parents who practice what they preach will find it easier to motivate their young athletes to develop great habits that lead to playoff success!
