Leonora Renda, an American dietitian, came to speak to us about a new type of diet which, according to certain preliminary studies, may be interesting in the treatment of certain types of cancer. I’m talking about the ketogenic diet.
The ketogenic diet is based on reducing to a minimum the quantity of carbs in your diet in order to favor fat intake. It’s also sometimes referred to as the LCHF diet (Low-Carb High-Fat). By reducing the amount of carbs consumed, which are the principal source of energy for our bodies, our metabolism changes to use fat as a source of energy. This change in energy metabolism is in part responsible for this diet’s positive effects on certain cancers. For the moment, this type of diet seems to be particularly interesting for brain cancers, where the change in energy source has the most effect.
For more information, I invite you to visit one of these two websites:
In theory, this new diet is super interesting…. But we need to wait for scientific evidence, as so far it has been mostly anecdotal. I’ll keep you updated!
As promised, here are some pictures of St. John’s and elsewhere in Newfoundland and Labrador.
