Fruit purées are not new, but adding vegetables (our superfoods) to them thereby making smoothies portable IS new. Buddy Fruits have a small pouch that makes them easy to pack in a sports bag, or even carry in a pocket. Their recipes are simply fruit purées, vegetable purées and fruit juices. Most have 15 grams of carbohydrates per pouch making eating them the equivalent of eating 1 whole fruit (i.e apple).
Processed produce are not a first choice normally, but 1 to 2 hours before sport when digestion time is limited processing food helps speed up digestion. So have fruit and vegetable purées in the hours closer to sport and right after sport to benefit from a quick digesting option.
Fruit and vegetable purées can be combined with milk or soymilk to make a quick smoothie on-the-go. Many grocery stores carry tetra-packed milks that will preserve un-refridgerated. Fruit and vegetable purées can also be great energy top-ups in combination with a recovery snack.
