People with ragweed pollen allergy need to watch out for bananas, celery, cucumbers, melons and zucchini.
If you are allergic to birch pollen or alder, it’s better to avoid cherries, celery, apples, almonds, pistachios and mangos.
There is also a general recommendation against very spicy dishes because capsaicin, the chemical that gives peppers their intensity, is a trigger for symptoms similar to those of seasonal allergies. The mechanism of action is different than true allergies, but if spicy foods mimic your already bothersome symptoms, it is better to abstain.
It’s also recommended to avoid alcohol, since it can cause your blood vessels to dilate, which can aggravate the sniffles.
