5. Blackberries

Most berries shouldn’t cause any bloating or discomfort, unless you eat a large quantity (like during strawberry season!). The exception to the rule? Blackberries, just like apples, contain a high amount of sorbitol.

Some people don’t absorb sorbitol properly. The solution is to reduce your consumption. You can find sorbitol not only in certain fruits and vegetables (mushrooms, apricots, etc.), but also as a sweetener in several processed foods (sugar-free sweets and chewing gum, etc.).

6. Broccoli / Cabbage

Foods that are said to be gas forming, like broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, etc. have long been designated as responsible for intestinal discomforts. We now know that it’s the sorbitol and mannitol contained in these foods that cause the problems.

Test your tolerance to each. Certain cabbage, like red cabbage or green cabbage, contain very little fermentable sugar whereas others, like Savoy cabbage or Brussels sprouts, contain more.

7. Too much Fiber, too Quickly

We often hear that a diet rich in fiber is more beneficial for health. However, if you try to increase the quantity of fiber in your diet too quickly, you risk not feeling too good! The solution? Our smart meal plans for constipation are conceived to progressively increase your intake of fiber to reduce the  discomforts usually associated with this diet change to a minimum.

Really interesting. I’ve been feeling uncomfortable for several days and decided to eliminate some foods I’ve been eating lots of. As a gardener I often eat a handful of dried fruit to keep up my energy levels. Already, after less than a day I feel so much better. I also suspect I’ve been eating too much generally.
Thank you for your informative website.

Thanks for the info. I’ve just started to eat dried apricots and prunes to increase my iron level. Not putting it all together, I’ve been having THE WORST bloating and discomfort. I researched it today and found out why. Well, the dried prunes and apricots are now trash and I’m feeling much better now.😁
