The benefits of the mediterranean diet have been known for quite a while already. A recent study from Maastricht University in the Netherlands, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition has demonstrated that combining this diet with a healthy lifestyle, i.e. regular exercise, not smoking, and maintaining a healthy weight, can add up to 15 years to women’s life expectancy.
The study followed 120,000 men and women aged 55 to 69 over a period of 10 years. In the case of men, the improvement has been a little less dramatic, averaging 8 years.
This is yet another confirmation that the SOSCuisine meal plans, which are based on the mediterranean diet, are among the healthiest choices that you can make. In a nutshell, the mediterranean diet favours a high intake of fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts, whole grains, fish, olive oil, and a low intake of meat.
