When the water starts properly boiling, throw in the pasta and stir immediately using a wooden spoon, to stop it from sticking to itself or the bottom of the pot. Start monitoring the time from this moment. Don’t cover the pot during cooking and stir occasionally. The time required for cooking is marked on the box, but you should taste towards the end of cooking time. Remove a piece of pasta with a fork and taste it. The pasta must be soft but not too hard, al dente, which means it should resist very slightly when bitten. Continue cooking, and taste again, until it’s to your taste.
