February is not only the month in which Valentine’s Day falls, but also the month during which awareness is raised about the heart and cardiovascular diseases that attack so many of us (the cause of one third of all premature deaths in the population).
The “recipe” for becoming heart-healthy is simple: Adopt a healthy lifestyle, do regular physical exercise, don’t smoke, and maintain a balanced diet. Starting this week, increase your intake of fruits and vegetables, opt for whole grain products and low-fat milk, and cut down on red meat, fats, sugar and salt.
In order to help you, we’re proposing five delicious recipes from our “healthy heart” menus that not only take advantage of the best buys of the week but are also excellent contenders for a healthy Valentine’s Day meal to be shared with your family and/or the one you’ve given your heart to! And the icing on the cake is that you’ll still have room for a “small” chocolate dessert. Happy Valentine’s Day!
