Who does not know bagels, the ring-shaped litlle breads made from yeasted wheat dough, that are first boiled for a short time in water and then baked? Probably originating in Poland, bagels followed Jewish immigrants from Eastern Europe to the United States and Canada, where they are often served with smoked salmon and cream cheese.
