Have you already seen one of those colourful three-wheeled carts in Ville-Marie or Plateau Mont-Royal? They are called ‘Fruixi’ and are part of a new City of Montreal’s pilot project aimed at bringing healthy food closer to people. They haul a trailer with shelves stuffed with fresh seasonal produce such as tomatoes, eggplants, green peppers, zucchini and lettuce.
These mobile stalls serve neighbourhoods where conventional fruit stores are fewer and further apart. There also drop points near three hospitals: Hôtel-Dieu, Saint-Luc and Notre-Dame. The project will be deployed throughout the summer, i.e. until October 16.
To see when your favourite locally-produced fruits and vegetables will be available, check out the real time crop availability table in our "Eat Local" section.
